Kuwait Wakeboard Team History

Kuwait Wakeboard Team was founded in June of 2006 by Bader Aljihayem (Current Team Captain) and was officially recognized by the Kuwait Sea Sport Club in August 2008. The Kuwait Wakeboard Team currently consists of 15 riders. The team slowly formed from riders around Kuwait joining together to better their skills. Most of the riders on the team have progressed over the past year from intermediate rider to a competitive rider. The current wakeboard team is made up of both men and women all of which represent a wide variety of style, design and determination within Kuwait.

In September 2008, the Kuwait Wakeboard Team received an official invite from the Qatar Marine Sports Federation to participate in the Annual Arab Wakeboard Competition of 2008.

The Kuwait Wakeboard Team was sponsored by Kuwait Finance House in 2008 to attend the Annual Arab Wakeboard Competition. Kuwait Finance House is the first sponsor for the Kuwait Wakeboard Team and because of their sponsorship; the Kuwait Wakeboard Team was able to proudly represent Kuwait among other regional riders.

The Annual Arab Wakeboard Competition was held November 13th, 14th, and 15th. There were a total of 14 participating individuals; with the following Arab countries represented: Lebanon, Egypt, Qatar and Kuwait. The Kuwait Wakeboarding Team was represented by Bader Abdullah Al-Jihayem, Saleh Ali Al-Duwaisan, and Mohammed Jassim Al-Shawaf. The Kuwait Wakeboard Team participated in all events.

Thursday November 13th, the Kuwait Wakeboarding Team practiced with other professionals and was delighted to meet all the IWSF officials.

Friday November 14th, at 1:00PM the Semi-Final Annual Arab Wakeboard Championships began. All of the Kuwait Wakeboard riders placed for the finals.

Saturday the 15th the Final Annual Arab Wakeboard Championships were held. The Kuwait Wakeboarding Team proudly placed in the top seven of the Arab participants. With Bader Abdullah Al-Jihayem placing 5th with a total score of 54.12, Saleh Ali Al-Dwasan placing 6th with a score of 27.80 and Mohammed Jassim Al-Shawaf placing 7th with a score of 20.91.

The Kuwait Wakeboarding Team was also proud to receive the “Best Team Award” for a combined total performance score of 102.83.

On November 28, 2008, the International Water Ski Federation featured on the home page in “Today’s Top Headline” the Kuwait Wakeboarding Team accepting the “Best Team Award” trophy.

Currently the Kuwait Wakeboard Team is working towards one goal; refining wakeboarding in Kuwait. To do this the team needs support in many areas, such as; a professional wakeboarding boat, boat-docking, equipment and support for regional or international tournaments, competitions, and so on.

During the next year, the Kuwait Wakeboard Team will work closely with the International Water Ski Federation to enhance the talent of the team and other regional riders.
